"For we walk by faith, not by sight. " II Corinthians 5:7
Faith allows us to have a deeper relationship with God. It awakens us to the hope that when we’re faced with the troubles and turmoil of life, we're not alone. When you pray for faith over your grandchildren, you’re standing in the gap for them, letting ministering angels work in their lives to encourage faith.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10
Watching your grandchildren grow up to make good decisions, build good character and experience personal growth is something all grandparents wish for. By praying for wisdom, you pray that God keeps them from harm of their own doing.
"The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear him, and delivers them." Psalms 34:7
There are many trials and tribulations your grandchildren may face along their journey, and while we’re not spared these trials, we can ask God for protection. The scripture above refers to the angel of the Lord, which Christians believe to be the pre-incarnate Christ. This means you can pray for Jesus to surround your grandchildren.
"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord." James 5:14
As an elder in the church, you’re given the authority to pray over those who are sick, including your grandchildren. This display of faith is also encouraging to your grandchildren so that when they experience health issues, they may have the courage to also pray for themselves.
"As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." Proverbs 27:17
Your grandchildren will have many relationships throughout life, whether with family, friends, colleagues or just acquaintances. Pray that your grandchildren will form good relationships for their own sake and that they’ll be a force of good in the lives of others.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
God has given us many gifts and talents, and it might seem frightening to put them to use. Understand that God gives those gifts so we can prosper, have hope for the future and live out our purpose more effectively. To pray for purpose, you’re asking God to touch the hearts of your grandchildren.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
Life may throw many curve balls that your grandchildren may have to face. But Paul writes that Christ strengthens him and that he can face these tribulations, and with these words, allows us to do the same.
"In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility." Titus 2:7
Good character encompasses everything a Christian should strive to become and includes qualities such as integrity, compassion, generosity, humility and courage. Praying that our grandchildren have good character means they’ll be more like Jesus. We also pray that when they encounter tough times, they build good character instead of losing heart.
"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." Proverbs 16:3
While guidance and opportunity are two of the things to pray for when you desire success in your grandchildren’s lives, it’s also important to pray that they follow good values in the pursuit of success. Pray that they display humility, integrity, wisdom and gratitude throughout.
"Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full." John 16:24
When you pray for joy for your grandchildren, you help them unlock spiritual maturity and awaken eternity in their hearts. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, and the cultivation of joy is a Biblical mandate.
"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." Matthew 6:14
Forgiveness is an important theme throughout the Bible. God encourages us to forgive others and also reassures us that he will forgive us. A prayer of forgiveness over your grandchildren equips them with the wisdom to let things go that they can’t change and to release the burden of debt they feel that those who trespass against them might owe them.
"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
Pray that your grandchildren will accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior so they may be saved through him.
